Summer berry ice cream - recipe


Use boysenberries, blackberries, or olallieberries to make this very rich ice cream.

It's made of a scrap of board cut to fit a flat (flats are different sizes, so you'll have to measure yours and cut the board to fit). Nail or glue strips of 1/2-inch beveled molding across it to make the rows. To make the board easy to hold, attach a pair of drawer handles to the back. Crank until dasher is hard to turn (or cream is frozen in automatic machine). The softly frozen ice cream can be served now. If you want a firmer texture, remove dasher, cover ice cream with plastic wrap, and replace lid; freeze until firm (or store in freezer). Makes about 2 quarts.
